Patriotic

It’s a patriotic color challenge this week over at Pals Paper Arts.

The obvious choice was to make a flag card with these colors, but I jazzed it up with a little silver embossing powder and the ribbon border punch.

Stamps: Every Little Bit
Ink: VersaMark
Paper: Night of Navy, Real Red, Whisper White
Other: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, Silver Embossing Powder

This would be a fun invitation for a 4th of July BBQ. Or even an Olympics viewing party. Don’t forget, Flag Day is June 14th!

Fun challenge over at the Friday Mashup this week. A great sketch with the added challenge of making a masculine card with it.

I had to use Loads of Love with this one. It is one of the very first stamp sets I ever bought, and it is retiring on Thursday!  Since Steve drives a blue pick-up, it’s a natural choice for a Father’s Day card. I didn’t realize it until I had finished, but I ended up pretty much using the same colors on my card that were in the sketch! It’s also a pretty patriotic color scheme for this Memorial Day weekend.

Stamps: Loads of Love
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Island Indigo, Poppy Parade, Basic Grey, Crumb Cake
Paper: Crumb Cake, Island Indigo, Naturals White, 2010-2012 In Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack, 2011-2013 In Color Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack

Just a reminder that anything Poppy Parade (or any of the 2010-2012 In Colors) will no longer be available after Thursday, May 31st. In fact, a lot is sold out already. Get what you need while you still have a chance!

Happy Fourth of July! I’m spending part of today playing along at the special Independence Day Clean & Simple challenges at SplitCoast Stampers. They will have a total of 22 challenges posted throughout the day! Wow! Here’s one of them I made, a special no-calorie cupcake in honor of today. This is a mini 3″x3″ card, for their second challenge.

Stamps: Pennant Parade, Create a Cupcake
Ink: Real Red, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Paper: Real Red, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Other: Cupcake Punch, Petite Pennants Builder Punch, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, 2 1/2″ Circle Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, toothpick

Hope you have a fabulous day, however you spend it! It’s getting mighty hot here, so I think I’m going to stop stamping for a little bit and go jump in the pool.

We have some more fabulous Fourth of July colors from ColourQ this week. Check these out:

I was feeling nostalgic, and went all the way back to 2003 and Eve’s first 4th of July for these pictures. I was going to use the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper (digital version), but I realized that it was Not Quite Navy instead of Night of Navy.

I try to put things on an angle once in a while. It’s hard, but I do like how it looks. Hope you’ll play along with us at ColourQ this week!

When my friend Holly (you might know her as HollyLogic on Stampin’ Addicts or Splitcoast) posted on her blog that she wanted to do a special patriotic giveaway for Flag Day, I was more than happy to join in the fun! I am giving away 9 yards of red, white, and blue satin ribbon!

The package above contains three yards each of Real Red, Whisper White, and Night of Navy 5/8″ satin ribbon from Stampin’ Up. Please leave me a comment below if you would like to be entered to win. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 20th. Shipping within the United States only please — APO/FPO is fine. Don’t forget, the Night of Navy satin ribbon is on Stampin’ Up’s retiring accessories list and will not be available after June 30th.

Happy Memorial Day! Its been a long time since I’ve had a chance to play along with Mojo Monday, but with the holiday today, I did!

I wanted to make a card in honor of Memorial Day, to thank so many brave men & women who have served our country so selflessly. I thought it was only fitting to use Poppy Parade as the red. (If you are not sure why, see the poem at the bottom of this post.)

Stamps: So Many Thanks, So Many Stars Builder Wheel
Ink: Night of Navy, Poppy Parade, Craft White
Paper: Poppy Parade, Whisper White, Night of Navy, In Color Designer Series Paper Pack (Hostess Level 1)
Other: Poppy Parade Poly Ribbon, Hodge Podge Hardware (Silver)

In Flanders Fields

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I hope you enjoyed your barbeques — I know I did! But I also hope you took the time to remember those who are the reason we are celebrating today.

Memorial Day is coming up next weekend, and this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge is to create something with Memorial Day as a theme. I chose to use the word “Remember” as part of my card. For that is what Memorial Day is — a day to remember men and women who died while serving our country. (For a history of Memorial Day and more information, visit the History Channel.) Thank you to those who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. Your service and sacrifice are greatly appreciated.

Stamps: Define Your Life, Classic Stars Jumbo Stampin’ Around Wheel

Paper: Night of Navy, Real Red, Whisper White

Hello and welcome to another Stampin’ Addicts Blog Hop! We are showcase some of the fabulous new items available in Stampin’ Up’s! Summer Mini Catalog. There are a wide variety of exciting new stamps and other products. You may have just arrived from Allison Ohran’s blog, where she showed you some of the new Builder Wheels. (If you are starting here, that’s okay too, the whole hop goes in a circle!) I am excited to show you the other three builder wheels, which are birthday themed.

The builder wheels are a really neat new concept. So far, there are six available wheels. Each wheel measures approximately 2/3 of an inch wide. There is a special spindle for the wheels that comes with spacers, allowing you to place one, two, or three of the builder wheels in one of the Stampin’ Around Jumbo Wheel handles and create your own designs. You can also purchase an uninked triple cell cartridge to create your own ink cartridge and have each of the builder wheels use a different color of ink in one swoop across the card stock! It is a fantastic concept, and I am so excited to play with these designs! Today I will be showing you four different projects that I made using the Candle Crazy, Birthday, and So Many Stars Builder Wheels.

My first project is a card that I created for a Stampin’ Addicts swap. I filled the uninked cartridge with Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay to easily make a dozen of these. The phrase “Happy Birthday” measures five inches long, just right for a card front! I used my Two-Way glue pen to add some Dazzling Diamonds to the front for extra sparkle!

Stamps: Candle Crazy Builder Wheel, Birthday Builder Wheel, So Many Stars Builder Wheel
Ink: Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay
Paper: Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, Crushed Curry Designer Prints Series Paper
Other: Scallop Border Punch, Two-Way Glue Pen, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

For my second project I created a card with a matching mini milk carton. I didn’t want to use the stars on this project, so I used each of the Builder Wheels separately to create this. I think I may have to buy an extra of the candles wheel, because I really like how it looks surrounding the Happy Birthday. Just another way this is such a flexible product! (You can click on the photo for a closer look.)

Stamps: Candle Crazy Builder Wheel, Birthday Builder Wheel
Ink: Summer Sun, Brilliant Blue, Pumpkin Pie
Paper: Summer Sun, Brilliant Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Other: Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Mini Milk Carton Bigz L Die, Big Shot

Now we do have a fabulous Fourth of July Stamp Set and Patriotic Jumbo Wheel in this mini catalog, however as I was looking at the So Many Stars Builder Wheel, I realized that it would make a fantastic Patriotic card! Here is what I came up with:

Stamps: So Many Stars Builder Wheel
Ink: Night of Navy
Paper: Night of Navy, Real Red, Whisper White, Brushed Silver
Other: Large Star Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

My final project is actually the first thing I thought of doing — I just saw all of those candles and immediately thought  HANUKKAH! I know it’s not the right time of year, but I had to try one anyone. The ribbon is white satin, even though it looks like something else in the picture. The phrase “Happy Hanukkah” is from the Chit Chat Rub-Ons which have a huge variety of phrases in both white and Chocolate Chip.

Stamps: Candle Crazy Builder Wheel
Ink: VersaMark
Paper: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Kraft, Brushed Gold
Other: Gold Embossing Powder, Gold Brads, White Satin Ribbon, Modern Label Punch, Punch Windows Movers & Shapers Die, Big Shot

I hope you enjoyed this stop on the Stampin’ Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop. Next up is Carmen, who will be showing you the super yummy Sweet Scoops stamp set.

I am honored to be a part of Operation Write Home‘s Veteran’s Day Blog Hop. Operation Write Home is a fabulous organization. They are a group of crafters from across America (and beyond!) who make handmade cards for deployed heroes so they can keep in touch with their loved ones at home! They serve all branches of the military in all deployed locations, including those stationed aboard ships. Please visit their home page for more information on supporting this wonderful cause.

As part of the blog hop, I will be showing you two cards today. The first is an “Any Hero” card. It is a thank you card that will be going to one of our service men or women, in appreciation of the sacrifices they are making for our country. I wanted to make a patriotic card, but since Eve was writing the message for the inside, I chose a design that reflected that. It is both patriotic and kid-like. (The great shape at the top is made by turning the Top Note die cut 90° and running it through the Big Shot a second time.)

Stamps: Beary Best Friends, Beary Nice Wishes
Ink: StazOn Black, Night of Navy
Paper: Real Red, Whisper White, Jackpot Designer Series Paper (dress), Hostess Prints Pack Designer Series Paper (Night of Navy)
Other: Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Top Note Bigz Die, Big Shot

Here is Eve’s note on the inside:

The second card I have to share with you today is one of the blank Valentines that will be sent to the troops. so they have Valentines to send home to their loved ones. It may seem early for Valentines, but when you figure shipping time abroad and back, it’s not too early. I wanted to make something that was not “lumpy,” so it would be easy to mail, as well as something that would be appropriate for a man or women. This is what I came up with:

Stamps: A Happy Heart
Ink: Real Red, Creamy Caramel
Paper: Real Red, Creamy Caramel, Very Vanilla, Jackpot Designer Series Paper
Other: Sponge Daubers

I hope you have enjoyed this stop on Operation Write Home‘s Veteran’s Day Blog Hop.

Your next stop is Cindy at Heart’s Delight Cards.

I can’t wait to see what she has made!

Happy Independence Day! We were invited to one of my husband’s coworker’s houses tonight, so I wanted to make up a nice Fourth of July card for her. I tried a new technique today, Squaring the Top Note. Angela has a great tutorial for this on her blog. Basically what you do is cut out a Top Note with you Big Shot, then rotate it 90 degrees and run it through again. I love how it looks on this card! I used my white gel pen to make the faux stitching around the edges.

CIMG8055

Stamps: Celebrate Everything
Ink: Real Red, Night of Navy
Paper: Real Red, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Accessories: Star Punch, Real Red 1/2″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Uni Ball White Gel Pen, Top Note Bigz Die, Big Shot

I hope you have a fabulous Fourth, filled with fun, friends, family and fireworks!
