Birthday

Great sketch from clean&simple stamping this weekend. I really like the added interest of the half circle on the left.

I knew I wanted to play with the new Summer Smooches paper, and I realized that I haven’t used my Adorning Accents Edgelits much either. So I put them together and came up with this!

Stamps: Perfectly Penned
Ink: Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade, Whisper White, Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper
Other: Brights Buttons, Lucky Limeade Baker’s Twine, Adorning Accents Edgelits, Big Shot

Can I just say how much I love the Perfectly Penned stamp set? It adds so much elegance to any card. And now there’s a digital version, too!

I am super excited today for two reasons. First, my fabulous daughter Eve is turning nine-years-old today. Nine! I can’t believe it! Second, Paula is on vacation, so she asked me to fill in for her over at the Stampin’ Addicts Sketch Challenge today! Of course I had to combine these two! Here is the sketch I made up. It is a round card, but feel free to make it square if that works better for you.

And this is the birthday card for Eve! It’s hard to tell in the picture, but I painted the Silver Glimmer Paper with Pretty in Pink reinker. It gives a pinkish glow to the paper.

Stamps: Create a Cupcake
Ink:
Pretty in Pink, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight
Paper:
Melon Mambo, Whisper White, Silver Glimmer Paper, Subtles Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack, Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack
Accessories:
Melon Mambo Dotted Scallop Ribbon, Scallop Circle Bigz Die, Clear Circle Bigz Die, 3 1/2 inch Circle Bigz Die, 2 3/8 inch Scallop Circle Punch, Circles #2 Bigz Die, Cupcake Punch

I made this into an easel card. It’s such a fun way to make a card extra special. This is what it looks like opened up:

I hope that you will come play in the Stampin’ Addicts sketch challenge. I’d love to see what you make!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Addicts 5th Saturday Stamp Jam and Blog Bounce! The Stamp Jam officially starts on March 31, 2012 at 9am Eastern Time. Each hour, a challenge will be posted for you to play along with in the Stamp Jam Thread over on the Stampin’ Addicts site. I am excited to be one of the hostesses. I am featuring the third challenge, which highlights the new Summer Smooches line. This is available for purchase during the month of April, and then again when the next Stampin’ Up catalog begins in June. If you don’t have these products yet, go ahead and create something  featuring the Summer Smooches colors — Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo, and/or Tangerine Tango.

The first project I have for you uses the sketch from Stampin’ Addicts Sketch Challenge #128 and features three of the designs in the new Summer Smooches designer series paper. It also has the yummy new Daffodil Delight seam binding! (I used two layers of it so it wouldn’t be so sheer.)

Stamps: Perfect Punches
Ink:
Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo
Paper:
Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise, Lucky Limeade, Whisper White, Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper
Other:
Daffodil Delight Seam Binding, Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

My second project is a trio of thank you notes. They were super easy to make with the Summer Smooch paper and my Simply Scored! Come back later in the week and I will have a closer look at the these three cards for you.

Stamps: Thank You Kindly
Ink:
Island Indigo, Rich Razzleberry, Tangerine Tango
Paper:
Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight, Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade, Tangerine Tango, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper
Other:
Labels Collection Framelits, Simply Scored

The final project I want to show you today are these adorable purses from the new Petite Purse Bigz L Die. Again, if you come back later in the week, I’ll have a closer look at each one. These purses are fairly small — each holds about four Hershey’s Nuggets. They are super cute and easy to make. The die does cut out a strap for the purse, as seen on the purse on the left. You can easily substitute this for ribbon (on the middle one) or a border punched strap (right). There is a slot for the flap to slip into, so the brads and buttons are merely decorative.

Stamps: It’s a Wrap Occasions
Ink:
Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight
Paper:
Island Indigo, Whisper White, Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper
Other:
Petite Purse Bigz L Die, Neutrals 5/16″ brads, Printed 2011 In Color Designer Brads, Brights Buttons, Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon, Dotted Scallop Border Punch

I absolutely love this sketch that Paula posted over on Stampin’ Addicts way back in October. I’ve made several cards with it — it works so well, for so many images! I decided it would perfect to use to make a birthday card for my sister-in-law.

Stamps: Create a Cupcake
Inks:
Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black
Papers:
Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Big Top Birthday DSP, Brights Patterned DSP Stack
Accessories:
Perfect Pennant Die, Cupcake Punch, Tempting Turquoise 1/4 inch Grosgrain Ribbon

I hope you’ll come play along with the sketch challenges at Stampin’ Addicts. There’s no time limits, so play along whenever you can. And keep an eye out in the next two weeks — you never know who might show up as a guest hostess, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

This is my final card for the Stampin’ Addicts birthday swap. It is a general birthday card, useful for just about anyone. I got the idea for the presents from this card by Melissa Sunde, and tweaked it a little.

Stamps: Perfectly Penned
Ink: Pacific Point
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Pacific Point, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White, Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack, Subtles Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack
Other: Daffodil Delight 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch

How cute are those presents? If you changed up the color scheme and the sentiment, this would make a great Christmas card as well. Helpful tip: If you are planning on embossing the layer that you stamp on, always stamp first and then emboss.

Here’s another card I made for the Stampin’ Addicts birthday swap. I knew I wanted to use my Not Quite Navy striped ribbon for this, so I used my Color Coach to help pick out the other colors. The bear is stamped on Naturals White cardstock, and colored in with my Watercolor Wonder Crayons. The balloon is stamped on Pumpkin Pie cardstock, cut out, and popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stamps: Beary Best Friends, Beary Nice Wishes
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Not Quite Navy
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Crumb Cake, Garden Green, Pumpkin Pie, Naturals White
Other: Not Quite Navy Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, Top Note Bigz Die, Stampin’ Dimensionals

If you are wondering about the shape that the bear is on — it’s a trick with the Top Note Die! You run your cardstock through the Big Shot on the Top Note Die as usual. Then take your cardstock and rotate it 90 degrees on the Top Note Die, and run it through again. Voila! You get this cool shape!

There is an adorable square card sketch over at Pals Paper Arts this week!

My mom asked me last night if I had any cards for a belated birthday, and since I recently got the adorable Turtle & Co set, I thought this would be a great time to make one!

Stamps: Turtle & Co
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Soft Suede
Paper: Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Whisper White, Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper
Other: Adorning Accents Edgelits, Lucky Limeade Everyday Enchantment Organdy Ribbon

I used the Sale-a-Bration ribbon with this card for the first time. It is a little thin, but I really like the look I got by wrapping it around three times. Plus it is nice and flat for easy mailing!

My friend Jennifer Timko has a great sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week. I love the nice clean lines!

I needed to make Eve a card for a birthday party she is going to today. It is for one of the third grade boys who just loves Legos. I got a great Lego card in the Stampin’ Addicts swap by Mary Rindal, so I took her idea and tweaked it to fit this sketch.

Stamps: Word Play
Ink: Garden Green, Pacific Point, Real Red
Paper: Garden Green, Pacific Point, Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Other: Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Daffodil Delight Brad, 1/2″ Circle Punch

I love how easy it is to make the Lego shapes with a card stock rectangle and a circle punch!

I just participated in another fabulous Stampin’ Addicts swap — this time for birthday cards! I received so many great cards, for all kinds of birthdays! I made three cards for the swap, which I will be showing you over the next few days. The first one is this unicorn one. I started with Whisper White Cardstock, and embossed the unicorn on it in gold. Then I used my aqua painter to wash Pool Party ink on everything that was not part of the unicorn. It creates a really neat look. Though the flash is giving the unicorn kind of an evil gleam in her eye, it really is lovely in real life.

Stamps: Pony Party
Ink: VersaMark, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder
Paper: Pool Party, Blushing Bride, Whisper White, Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper
Other: Gold Embossing Powder, Pool Party Seam Binding, Labels Collection Framelits

Swapping is so much fun, especially with such a talented group of women! Just another great perk of being a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator!

After I made this card, with the typewriter and the hearts, I had an idea of making one with balloons coming out of it for a birthday. Unfotunately, this is one of those examples where it looked better in my head than on paper. I’m going to share it with you anyway.

Stamps: You’re My Type, Crazy for Cupcakes (balloon)
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Cherry Cobbler
Paper: Basic Black, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper
Other: Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I’m thinking that maybe the Cherry Cobbler background needs to be embossed. Maybe with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder? I might try it again.
