Archive for February, 2011

I hope you enjoyed the blog hop this past weekend. I know I did! And I have a ton of new techniques to try! As promised, here is the tutorial video. It’s actually the second one that we filmed. The first one, Eve filmed and Jack the Great Dane kept sticking his nose into it! I’ll include a link to that one at the bottom of this post.

Didn’t Eve do a great job? She’s such a fabulous helper! Here is the card she made afterward. She used the butterfly punch on the piece that she decorated.

Ink: Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight
Paper: Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, Glossy White
Other: Butterfly Punch, Daffodil Delight Taffeta Ribbon

As promised, you can see the blooper video here.

Welcome to the first stop on the Second Annual  Stampin’ Addicts Birthday Blog Hop! (If you just came from Holly K’s blog, don’t worry, we will link you around in a complete circle.) Each of the stops is featuring a different stamping technique. I am excited to show you that old favorite, the shaving cream technique! This technique uses reinkers swirled into shaving cream to create an interesting image. You must use glossy paper, or it looks like a big mess. Be sure to come back on Monday for a video of the technique if you are unfamiliar with it.

Most of the time, the shaving cream technique is used to create card backgrounds. On this first card, I did just that. To add more interest, I used the faux shaving cream technique on the whale image, by smearing a wheel on the stamp itself. Doesn’t the shaving cream piece remind you of water? It is great for ocean-themed cards!

Stamps: Fox & Friends, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Cupcake Wheel
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Wild Wasabi
Paper: Glossy White, Baja Breeze, Night of Navy, Whisper White

For my second card, I again used the shaving cream piece as the background, but I also made two coordinating pieces which I used to create the cupcake. The shaving cream design can lend a lot of spice to punch art.

Stamps: Something to Celebrate (hostess)
Ink: Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake
Paper: Glossy White, Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
Other: Build a Cupcake Punch, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, Paper Piercer

As I was creating these images, I was struck by how much they looked like tie-dye. I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be fun to use this to create a tie-dye T-shirt for the Build-a-Bear? What better card for your favorite Dead Head?

Stamps: none
Ink:
Real Red, Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight
Paper:
Real Red, Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Basic Black
Other: Bear Bigz Die, Beary Essentials Bigz Die, Beary Boy Sizzlets Die, Big Shot

I hope you enjoyed  these projects. Please stop back on Monday for a video tutorial to learn more about the shaving cream technique. Your next stop is Holly P, who will be featuring some of her amazing punch art! Thanks for joining me in wishing Stampin’ Addicts a very happy 2nd birthday!

I had the chance to sit down with Samantha’s stamping class last Thursday, and make this super fun card. It is a CASE of Carol’s Punch Bunch birthday card, and it is just too cute! I love the owl in the tree! Both the Punch Bunch stamp set and the Ice Cream Parlor designer series paper are available free during Sale-a-Bration, but only until the end of March!

Stamps: Punch Bunch, Season of Friendship
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Pacific Point, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie

The ColourQ Challenge colors are really fun and bold and bright today. Just perfect for those of you fighting off the winter doldrums! (Hey, it rained here in California last week…)

I feel very fortunate that my mother-in-law bought Eve and my niece Sophia matching sweatshirts that had all of this week’s colors in them! And how cute are their smiles? If you are wondering how I made the border, I used the scallop square punch all the way around, about 5 on each side. I tried to use the scallop border punch, but I couldn’t get the corners right.

Supplies: Page made with My Digital Studio and additional downloads including glimmer brads, Word Window Punch, Basic Rhinestones, Tropical Party stamp brush set, and the Island Oasis II Digital Paper

Be sure and stop by Stampin’ Addicts for the big Birthday Celebration this week, and come back on Friday for the Birthday Blog Hop. Each blog in the hop will be featuring a different technique!

Stampin’ Addicts, the fabulous Stampin’ Up centered online forum and gallery, turns two years old tomorrow! Wow! It seems like yesterday that it was just starting up! To celebrate it’s birthday, we are having a “virtual card shower” starting on Tuesday. Make a birthday card, put it up online somewhere like the Stampin’ Addicts gallery, and post a link in the virtual card shower thread. For my card, I combined this week’s Curtain Call Color Challenge with the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge.

As soon as I saw these bright happy colors, I knew exactly which set to reach for — Pun Fun! I love that little birthday bird! I colored him in with my Stampin’ Write Markers, since there is no Pear Pizazz watercolor crayon. It’s an In Color, you know.

Stamps: Pun Fun
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Tempting Turquoise, Pear Pizazz, Tangerine Tango
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Pear Pizazz, Tangerine Tango, Whisper White, Brights Designer Series Paper Stack, In Color Designer Series Paper Stack
Other: Scallop Square Punch, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, 2 1/2″ Circle Punch

Be sure to stop by again, it’s going to be an exciting week! Tomorrow is the ColourQ challenge, and then on Friday it’s the Stampin’ Addicts Birthday Technique Blog Hop! You don’t want to miss it!

My downline Samantha just got the uber adorable Make a Monster stamp set, and she was kind enough to let me make a few monsters with it while she was teaching the after-school kids’ stamp class this Thursday. I made four little monsters, and brought them home to color in when I knew what I wanted to do with them. When I saw this week’s Stamping 411 sketch challenge and the ColorLab challenge, I knew they would be perfect for my first monster!

This monster set is just too cute. There are three monster outlines, and a variety of eyes, mouths, and other monster additions. Since Sam got the clear mount stamp set, it was super easy to put together the monster. I think this first one looks more cute than scary. Must be the eyelashes!

Stamps: Make a Monster, Family Phrases
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Rich Razzleberry, Pear Pizazz
Paper: Pear Pizazz, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Brights Designer Series Paper Stack (Rich Razzleberry)
Other: Old Olive 5/8″ Satin Ribbon, Word Window Punch, Modern Label Punch

Stay tuned for more monsters. I have three more, but Eve already asked if she could color one!

I love this week’s Stampin’ Celebration Inspiration Challenge. All of that bright yellow made me think of my mom. (Hi Mom!) I combined it with this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge and also used this week’s SUO Challenge, to use the Stampin’ Around Wheels. I love wheels!

I decided to use the For You Flower ala carte stamp, which I received FREE as one of my Sale-a-Bration choices. I just love free stamps! Here’s what I came up with.

Stamps: For You Flower, Baroque Wheel
Ink: Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizazz
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, In Color Designer Series Patterns Stack (Pear Pizazz)
Other: Pear Pizzaz 1/2″ Poly Ribbon, Fancy Flower Punch, Stampin Dimensionals

To get that little bit of Pear Pizazz on the stamp, I first inked up the whole stamp in Daffodil Delight, then just used my Pear Pizazz marker on top of the words I wanted color. Super easy!

St. Patrick’s Day is huge at my school. HUGE! I can’t even begin to describe how thoroughly it is celebrated. Everyone wears green, of course, and some of the teachers’ feet even turn green magically! Because of this, I am always excited to see new St. Patrick’s Day stamps. The new single stamp at the back of the Occasions Mini Catalog was no exception! This is a swap card I made with. The greenish tint to the River Rock card stock was just perfect for it.

Stamps: Lucky Shamrock
Ink: Garden Green
Paper: Garden Green, Early Espresso, River Rock, Whisper White
Other: 1″ Circle Punch, 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle Punch, Early Espresso Satin Ribbon, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot

This stamp is available in a wood-mount or as a digital stamp brush as well.

Eve needed a card for her good friend’s birthday and I was excited for an excuse to use my new cupcake punch! I combined it with the FREE Ice Cream Parlor Paper & Ribbon from the Sale-a-Bration catalog. The “Happy Birthday” comes from a FREE Sale-a-bration stamp set, So Happy For You. How cute is this for a little girl just turning 8?

Stamps: Create a Cupcake, So Happy for You
Ink: Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Early Espresso
Paper: Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper
Other: Ice Cream Parlor Ribbon, Build a Cupcake Punch, Tag Punch, Ribbon Border Punch

It was a fun card to make, and even more fun to use so many free items! I love Sale-a-Bration!
