Archive for October, 2010

I love this card by Jennifer, and knew that my after-school class would have a super fun time making it! I changed it a little to make it a bit easier for the kids (no craft ink!), but it is just as fun and spooky.

Paper: Basic Grey, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Other: Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon, Raven Lace, 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Spider Web Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Big Shot

This may be the most stunningly elegant card I have ever made. Seriously. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It is just amazing in person. And so deceptively simple, that I will be doing it at workshops this fall, and quite possible with the my after school kids who are 2nd – 4th graders. Yep, it’s a winner all right! It combines both dry embossing (with the Big Shot) and heat embossing in silver.

Stamps: All Holidays
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Other: Simple Rhinestones, Northern Flurry Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Silver Embossing Powder, Heat Tool

It’s gorgeous. I can’t stop looking at it. Want to make your own? Call me to schedule a workshop today — it’s the Book-a-thon!

Tomorrow (October 12) is Stampin’ Up’s Book-a-thon Blitz here in North America, so I wanted to show you one of the  projects we are making at some of my workshops this fall. It is a super cute cork board, made with Stampin’ Up’s cork sheets and the owl punch. (You do know that the Big Shot can cut 50 different materials, right?)

Paper: Autumn Spice Specialty Designer Series Paper, Early Espresso, More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Whisper White
Other: Cork Sheets, Scallop Square Clear Bigz Die, Big Shot, Owl Punch, Early Espresso Satin Ribbon

The Autumn Spice paper is classified as a “specialty” paper — it is a nice heavy card stock, unlike the regular designer series paper, and can easily hold the weight of the cork.

I’ll be trying to book as many workshops as I can tomorrow — if you are local, I just might be calling you! If you want to earn a free roll of ribbon, send me an email or give me a call before I contact you, and at your workshop I will add a free roll of ribbon to your order!

My friend Claire has a new book out! It is called If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now, and it is getting great reviews from everyone who has read it.  I just picked up my copy today, so I can’t tell you how fabulous it is yet, but if it’s anything like her other books, it will be absolutely fantastic! I wanted to make her a congratulations card, and this week’s Pals Paper Arts Colors are so bright and cheery, I knew they would be perfect.

As I looked at these colors, I thought about a past card I had made with Fifth Avenue Floral, and thought that these would be perfect for a redo! And guess what? The new Decorative Label Punch fits the sentiment from that set perfectly!

Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral
Ink:Peach Parfait, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzaz
Paper: Peach Parfait, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
Other: Pear Pizzaz Ribbon, Decorative Label Punch

To make a mat for the new punch, I punched two labels out of the Peach Parfait card stock, and cut one in half the long way, and the other in halgf the short way. Then I spread them out a little to place behind the white.

My sister-in-law’s birthday is exactly one week after mine, so today we got together today in between the two to celebrate them both. I thought that this week’s Clean & Simple layout was just perfect for her card.

Her favorite color is purple, so I used mostly Concord Crush to create this card for her.

Stamps: Crazy for Cupcakes, A Word for You
Ink: StazOn Jet Black, Concord Crush, Real Red, Crumb Cake, Basic Grey
Paper: Concord Crush, Whisper White, In Colors Designer Series Patterns Stack (Concord Crush)
Other: Concord Crush Ribbon, Aqua Painter

I colored the cupcakes with ink from the pad using my Aqua Painter. Isn’t it interesting what color the tops of the cupcakes turned?

There are not a lot of fall colors here in Los Angeles, but that certainly didn’t stop me from making this fabulous card for the after-school kids’ club to make. Hey, it may be the only fall leaves we’ll be seeing! This also works great for all of the gorgeous fall decorations in this week’s Stampin’ Celebration Inspiration Challenge!

Stamps: Season of Friendship
Ink: More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso
Paper: More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Whisper White
Other: Early Espresso 1/4″ Grosgrain, Top Note Bigz Die, Big Shot

We’re going to work on cleaning the stamps before changing colors.

I promised the kids when they signed up for card making that we would make cards with candy in them. As you can imagine, this was a big draw! Here is the third card we are making tomorrow after school, it measures 4″ x 4″ folded. (With a big thank you to my downline Melissa for saving me when I ran out of Sweet Treat cups!)

Stamps: Sweet Centers
Ink: Basic Black, Tangerine Tango, Wild Wasabi
Paper: Tangerine Tango (textured), Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Other: 1 3/4″ Circle Punch, Sweet Treat Cups

I’m sure there will be more candy corn eaten than actually put in the cards!

Whoo-hoo! It finally cooled down here in Los Angeles! Of course, by “cooled down” I mean low 70s. But compared to our record breaking heat wave of 100+ degrees last week, I am thrilled! I was happy to see more fall colors in this week’s Curtain Call Color Challenge. I combined them with last week’s Stampin’ Addicts’ sketch challenge.

I haven’t used my Upsy Daisy set in quite awhile, and I thought it would be fun to use markers in the challenge colors on it!

Stamps: Upsy Daisy
Ink: Old Olive, More Mustard, Cajun Craze
Paper: Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Very Vanilla
Other: Old Olive 5/8″ Satin Ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch

I hope you are enjoying fall wherever you are!
