As long as I’m starting with the Hanukkah cards, I figured that I might as well do one for the Pals Paper Arts Sketch challenge this week too. I like the big circle as the focal point.

PPA12

I hadn’t done any embossing on my Hanukkah cards yet, and I love the look of silver and Night of Navy, so I grabbed those first. I thought the Bashful Blue pieces looked a little plain, so I used the single candle from Party Hearty to make a more interesting background. Here’s the finished card:

Stamps: Shalom Sayings, Party Hearty
Ink: VersaMark, Bashful Blue
Paper: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Brushed Silver, Going Grey
Other: Silver Embossing Powder, 1/4″ Night of Navy Grosgrain Ribbon, Silver Elastic Cord, Scallops #2 Bigz Die, Big Shot

Thanks for looking!

I was at a Tupperware party the other night (yes, seriously, and it was so much fun!) and I was talking to one of my friends about how I had made a few Hanukkah cards, but hadn’t started putting them up on my blog yet, thinking it was still too far away. But she pointed out (Thanks Lisa!) that Hanukkah is less then 2 months away, and there was no need to wait to post them. Excellent point! So I decided to do a Hanukkah card for this week’s Saturday Sketch Challenge from Stamping 411.

This sketch lent itself very nicely to the new “Let There Be Light” single stamp found in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I love the fun whimsical look of the candles. See the Designer Series Paper on top? It didn’t start out like that. See below for more info on how I modified it.

CIMG8513

Stamps: Let There Be Light
Ink: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Crushed Curry
Paper: Night of Navy, Bashful Blue, Crushed Curry, Whisper White, Crushed Curry Designer Patterns Series Paper, Patterns Pack Designer Series Paper (Hostess Level 1)
Other: Brayer

The top piece of Designer Series Paper is from the Patterns Pack that you can get free with as a Hostess Level 1 set. It comes with five colors included — Ruby Red, Mellow Moss, Sahara Sand, Really Rust, and Night of Navy. I used one of  the Night of Navy patterns for this card. Here’s what it looked like fresh out of the pack:

But it was too white. It took away from the stamped image. So I pulled out my handy dandy brayer nd my Bashful Blue ink pad, and I brayed ink over the piece of Designer Series Paper. Et viola! A beautiful piece of Designer Series Paper that matches my card fabulously! Amazing, huh?

Eve had her first field trip of the year last week. They went up to TreePeople to learn about the urban forest and taking care of our environment. We were requested to send a bag lunch with, so they wouldn’t have to carry anything back with them. I wanted her lunch to be easily identifiable among the other lunch bags, so I pulled out my stamps and jazzed it up a bit! Really, it took about 5 minutes to roll the wheel across and stamp her name. And look how cute it turned out!

CIMG8436

Stamps: Jumbo Outline Alphabet, Dream Stampin’ Around Wheel
Ink: Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry
Other: lunch bag

Eve was super excited when I showed it to her in the morning. And it was so fast to make, I didn’t even mind the idea of it being thrown away. Just think, you could make personalized theme lunch bags for all occasions!

I wanted to make my sister-in-law a stationary set that I knew she would really be able to use. Something useful and versatile, with cats, and it had to be purple. I started with a basic idea that I found here, combining C is for Cat  and the Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper. I made eight of these cards, with the coordinating envelopes.

CIMG8494

Stamps: C is for Cat, Oval All
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence
Paper: Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence, Whisper White, Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper
Accessories: Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon
, Large Oval Punch, Scalloped Oval Punch

That is the only card that I attached the sentiment to. In order to have flexibility, I stamped a dozen sayings from Oval All — 3 of each — and didn’t attach them. That way, Abby can use whichever of the sentiments she needs. There are more sentiments than cards, to add to the flexibility.

CIMG8492

I put them all in this handy dandy portfolio. I needed a place to store the little ovals, so I cut down a small cello bag and attached it with a little sticky strip.

CIMG8493

And here it is, all closed up and ready to go.

CIMG8495

Happy Birthday, Abby! Hope you have a great day!

It is my sister-in-law’s birthday on Monday (in addition to my niece’s) and just like Eve made a birthday card for Sophia with this week’s Saturday Sketch Challenge, I made one for Abby.

She loves purple and cats, so what could be better than combining them?

CIMG8441

Stamps: C is for Cat, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence
Paper: Rich Razzleberry, Orchid Opulence, Whisper White, Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper
Accessories: Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon

Come back later in the week to see the coordinating stationary set I made her as well.

Eve, who is 6 1/2, decided to give the Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch Challenge a try this morning. She wanted to make a card for her cousin Sophia who will be 2 on Monday. She liked this sketch a lot.

ssc120

What could be better for her two-year-old cousin than a Build-a-Bear card? Eve did all of the designing, stamping, and coloring herself. I just helped by cutting the layers.

Stamps: Beary Best Friends, Beary Nice Wishes
Ink: Basic Black, Orchid Opulence, Pixie Pink
Paper: Pixie Pink, Lovely Lilac, Whisper White, Pawsitively Prints, Designer Series Paper
Accessories: Watercolor Wonder Crayons

I love stamping with Eve! She’s so much fun — and talented and creative besides!

I love making this card. It makes me so happy every year at Halloween to make my little spinning bat card. We made this yesterday at our stamping get together at work, and everyone loved it. What’s not to love really? It’s fun, it’s cute, and the bat moves along the track and spins! (Oh, and it also works for this week’s Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge of Old Olive, Perfect Plum, and Pumpkin Pie.)
