Archive for February, 2009

I love the colors in the new Raspberry Tart paper. I think they are just yummy — so rich and vibrant! When I saw these cards by Christine Okken, I knew I had to make one of my own. The scalloped circle is a Bigz Die. I cut the circle on my Coluzzle, but I just got my new Circle Scissors plus, so I’ll be looking forward to cutting some circles with that!

Isn’t it just delicious?

Who doesn’t love penguins? I mean really, what’s not to love? When we were house sitting in Los Angeles over Winter Vacation, Eve was lucky enough to get to stay in Dexter’s room. And Dexter loves penguins. So I made him this penguin card and note card set, as a thank you. Which I had better get in the mail, considering that it is already February!

I used the penguin from Wild About You (love that little guy!) colored with Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black Stampin’ Write markers before stamping it down. The card is based off of this one. The snowflakes are stamped in white craft ink, then embossed with Iridescent Ice. I used a Two-Way Glue Pen to apply glitter to the torn edges of the cardstock.

Ink: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White Craft Ink
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White
Accessories: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Dazzling Diamonds, Two-Way Glue Pen, Dimensionals

I used the same note card design that the fabulous Dannie Graves came up with,  but this time I used penguins instead of the monogram inside the scalloped circle.  The black and grey striped paper is from a retired Halloween pack, but the new Rockabilly paper has fantastic black striped paper as well!

Outside of the note card pack:

Hope he likes it!

Hip Hip Hooray for Kristina Werner’s Color Inspiration #40. Once again she picked colors I wouldn’t have used, and once again I love how they look together! Today’s colors are:

020409-colorThese colors looked very flowery to me (which was nice since the high today was 12!) and I realized that I hadn’t used my Sweet Stems set yet. What a perfect opportunity to use it! I found a beautiful card by Karen Graff-Povis, changed the colors, and voila! I really love this new eyelet border punch! It lends such a look of elegance to the card.

Eve and I were so excited to see Kristina Werner’s Color Inspiration up! Especially since our new catalog order came in yesterday. Eve was especially excited to use the  Family Accessories Too set. She wanted to make a Rock Star Girl card, but got a little frustrated trying to stamp the guitar and microphone on top of the girl. (She is 5, after all.)  This week’s colors are:

Thanks for looking! Eve really appreciates all of your comments. Her face lights up when I read them to her. I really enjoy this part of my week, doing the challenges with my daughter!

I love puns and plays on words, clever things, and such. The stamp set Just B has a whole variety of “B” sayings, so of course I had to make a Valentine with it!

On our last trip to Target, Eve and I found marvelous metal mini mailboxes in the dollar spot. (Try saying that three times fast!) I had been reading for years how my fellow Stampin’ Up demonstrators decorated these for all different occasions, so we picked up a couple. On our snow day last week we finally had the time to decorate them. Thanks to Emily Giovanni’s fantastic tutorial, it was super easy to cover them!

I started with a white mailbox and used the Raspberry Tart paper and the Love You Much stamp set:

Ink: Rose Red, Cameo Coral, Kiwi Kiss
Paper: Raspberry Tart DSP, Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Cameo Coral
Accessories: Rose Red 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Pretty in Pink 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Three Flower Punch, Heart to Heart Punch, Rose Red Brad, Sticky Strip, Glue Dots, Mono Multi

Eve started with a red mailbox and used some retired Cherise paper and the Sock Monkey stamp set:

Accessories: Real Red 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Rose Red 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Pretty in Pink 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon, Watercolor Pencils, Sticky Strip, Mono Multi

We had fun putting them together. Might need to pick up a few more the next time we are at Target!

I really like this week’s Mojo Monday sketch and it lent itself perfectly to a set I had been wanting to play with — Polka Dot Punches. This is one of the sets you can earn for free during Sale-a-Bration. It is a great set, since all of the stamps coordinate with our punches! Here is today’s sketch:

And here is my card:

Stamps: Polka Dot Punches, Upsy Daisy

Paper: Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, Candy Lane DSP
Accessories: Pink Pirouette Striped Ribbon, Button Bouquet, 1/2″ Circle Punch, 1″ Circle Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Scallop Border Punch, 5 Petal Flower Punch

I had fun playing! Thanks for looking!

Eve (who is 5) has played along with several of the color challenges, but has never tried a sketch challenge. She liked the look of this week’s sketch on Mojo Monday, and gave it a whirl. I helped with the cutting and some of the punching, but she picked out the colors and papers herself. She also did the scallop border punch and trimmed the ribbon on her own! Her description of the card, “The girl in the card is reaching out to give you a hug.”

I love crafting with Eve! She is so much fun!

With the way Eve has become such an excellent stamper, you can say that it is “all in the family.” All in the Family is also the name of one of my favorite sets in the catalog. I was so excited to see that there is a now a Family Accessories Too set. Below is a card that Eve made, using All in the Family and its coordinating wheel. It is pretty tricky lining up the heads and the bodies, she did a great job! It is colored in with the Watercolor Pencils, but she chose to leave them looking pencils, and not blending them. Her description of the card is that it is her cousins Evan and Sophia playing ball with our dog Biscuit in a park across the street from their house. I just love how she drew in the street!
